Ohio Baseball Drops Series Finale at NIU

DEKALB, Ill. – The Ohio Baseball (8-21, 3-6 MAC) team dropped the series finale to Northern Illinois (10-21, 6-3) MAC, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Ralph McKinzie field.

Senior INF Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) led the way for Ohio going 3-of-4 with a double. Rott hit .615 in the series against NIU, going 8-for-13 with two doubles, one home run and five RBI.

Ohio jumped on the board first when sophomore INF Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored on an error. Levy reached on a single to right field and was moved to second on a Rott single.

Levy finished the day 1-for-4 with a one run scored.

NIU fired back with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Dylan Lonteen scored on an error to tie the game. Brendan Joyce gave NIU the lead when he scored on a Nick Drobushevich single. Lonteen scored on a double play, and the Huskies played two more runs on a throwing error and single to right field from Josh Mutter.

Junior INF Trevor Hafner (Perrysburg, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with a double and single.

Five Bobcats – Levy, sophomore INF Treyben Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio), redshirt freshman INF Cole Revels (Charlotte, N.C.), redshirt junior C Nathan Mallott (Omaha, Neb.) and sophomore OF Sebastian Fabik (Lebanon, Ohio) – all had singles today.

Sophomore RHP Edward Kutt IV (Westlake, Calif.) got his first start of the season and fell to 1-1 after pitching five innings and allowed just one earned run. Five runs scored while Kutt IV was on the mound and he struck out two batters while walking two. The Westlake, Calif. native now has a team-best 2.16 ERA in 33.1 innings pitched. Kutt IV has fanned 30 batters this season and has an opposing batting average of .225.

Sophomore LHP Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) faced the minimum in 2.0 innings while striking out two batters. Freshman RHP Eamon Horwedel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) also faced the minimum while tossing the eighth inning and struck out one batter.

Ryan Anderson got the win for NIU after pitching 7.1 innings.

Ohio will return home to Bob Wren Stadium on Tuesday to face Ohio State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
