CLEVELAND – Senior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio) of Ohio women's basketball was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Burke, a child and family studies major, earned MAC weekly honors for the second time this season and the third time of her career. Burke also won the award on Dec. 3 after her performance at the Daytona Beach Invitational. Ohio has now won the MAC East Division Player of the Week award three times this season, as redshirt sophomore guard Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) won the award after the opening week of the season.
Burke won the award after her second-highest scoring output of the season in Ohio's game against TCU on Sunday. Burke posted 26 points, going 10-of-19 from the field while knocking down four threes. Burke had a career-high seven assists against the Horned Frogs and added three steals, three rebounds and one block.
Burke is averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game for Ohio and is shooting 26-of-76 (34.2 percent) from the three-point line this season.
Ohio is back in action on Wednesday at Texas. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on the Longhorn Network.
