SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Ohio Women's Basketball junior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) has been named to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday afternoon (Oct. 21). The Nancy Lieberman award recognizes the top point guard in NCAA Division I basketball.
The Selection Committee for the Nancy Lieberman Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. New to the award this season is Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2020 Lieberman Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
Fan voting will be live on Oct. 25 and can be found here.
Hooks is one of two Mid-American Conference players on the list. Lauren Dickerson from Miami joins Hooks from the MAC.
The winner of the 2020 Lieberman Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, California on Friday, April 10, 2020, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard Award, the Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award, the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award and the Lisa Leslie Center Award, in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Hooks was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year last season and was also first-team All-MAC, MAC All-Defensive team and MAC All-Tournament team. Hooks broke her own single season steals record last season when she finished with 112, and is Ohio's 16th 1,000-point scorer, becoming the second-fastest to hit that mark.
Ohio will host an exhibition against Walsh on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3:30 p.m. The Bobcats will open the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Syracuse. Tip off at the Carrier Dome is set for 8 p.m.
