EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Ohio field hockey team (5-5, 2-1 MAC) was edged by host Michigan State (5-6, 1-4 Big Ten), 1-0, this afternoon at Ralph Young Field.

The Spartans potted what proved to be the match winner in the 10th minute when senior Kelsey Keener scored off assists by sophomore Aisha Osinga and freshman Nienke Bloemsaat.

The Bobcats fell to the Spartans despite holding the advantage in shots (16-8) and shots on goal (10-5). Redshirt senior midfielder Kendall Ballard (Charlottesville, Va.) and junior defender Leah Warren (Hamilton, New Zealand) tied for the match lead with five shots apiece while all three shots by junior midfielder Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio) were on goal, which led the match.

Redshirt senior Sophia Boothby (Spotsylvania, Va.) and sophomore Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) each played a half in goal. Both recorded two saves.

Ohio will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 13) for a Mid-American Conference matchup against Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich. First touch is slated for noon ET.
