CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- Junior first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) put together a huge day at the plate, but the Ohio baseball team (4-5) could not protect an early five run lead and fell to Nebraska Omaha (3-5), 6-5, in the Friday (March 2) series opener of the four-game weekend set at Perfect Game's LakePoint facility.
Rott went 4-for-5 with a double and a two-run home run. Redshirt senior catcher Nick Bredeson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore catcher Tanner Piechnick (Canonsburg, Pa.) finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Bobcats held a 5-0 lead after two innings of play, with Rott's two-out, two-run homer serving as the highlight.
The Mavericks battled back, though, tallying runs in the fourth and fifth, two more in the sixth, a run in the seventh to tie it and the go-ahead run in the eighth.
Ohio looks to bounce back on Saturday (March 3) when it plays a doubleheader against Nebraska Omaha beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
