ATHENS, Ohio— Ohio field hockey shut out Ball State in the first quarterfinal match up of the MAC Tournament this morning with the score of 4-0. The Bobcats registered 17 shots, 13 shots on goal, 4 goals, and 4 assists.

Ohio dominated in the first half, registering four goals on the Ball State Defense. The first goal in the game came late in the 8th minute with an unassisted shot in the middle of the circle by sophomore midfielder Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio). The Bobcats would score again in the 19th minute off of a penalty corner score from freshman midfielder Ashley Wilbur (Louisville, Ky.) with the double assist from senior forward Emma Eggleston (Houston, Texas) and redshirt freshmen Tayla Hansen (Levin, New Zealand). The offense continued a strong attack and in the 26th minute Shive would score her second goal assisted by sophomore defender Leah Warren (Hamilton, New Zealand). It wasn't long after when junior forward Karynne Baker (Falls Church, Va.) would score the last goal of the game, assisted by sophomore midfielder Emma Spinetto (Louisville, Ky.).

During the second half, the Bobcats would continue aggressive play on both sides of the ball. Ball State only tallied one shot on goal which was saved by senior goalkeeper Alex Pennington (Easton, Pa.) who played the entire game.

The Bobcats will return to the Miami Field Hockey Complex to continue MAC Tournament play tomorrow against the No.1 seed Miami. The game tomorrow (Nov. 2), will be at 11:30 a.m.
