ATHENS, Ohio – Capped off by a six-run fifth inning, the Ohio softball team (33-14, 14-7 MAC) completed the series sweep of Miami (27-21, 12-9 MAC) Saturday afternoon (April 29), downing the RedHawks 10-2 in five innings at the Ohio Softball Field on Senior Day. Prior to the game, the Bobcats honored its 2017 seniors, Alexis Milesky, Casie Hutchinson, Madison Claytor and Savannah Jo Dorsey for all of their accomplishments at Ohio.

Miami would try and take the early lead in the top of the first inning when Michaela Schlattman led the game off with a triple off the right center wall. However, starter Savannah Jo Dorsey would retire the next three batters and strand Schlattman on third, sending the game to the bottom of the first still scoreless.

The Bobcats would make noise in the bottom of the frame when Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio) led off with a single to left field. She would then advance to second when Alexa Holland (Rochester, Ind.) executed a perfect sacrifice bunt. Then with two outs, Alex Day (Hilliard, Ohio) would reach first when she was hit by a pitch. However, Miami starter Jamie Scher would get the last Bobcat batter to strike out, keeping the game scoreless going into the second inning.

However, Miami reliever Carly Mortensen would get the last Bobcat batter to ground out, ending the inning with Ohio leading 4-0 after three innings.

Then with one out, Jenna Jones would also draw a walk, putting runners on first and second. Both runners would advance on a wild pitch. Dorsey would get the next batter to fly out. Then with two outs, Schlattman would reach first in a fielding error by the Bobcats, scoring Gliha and Jones. With runners on first and second and still with one out, Brunswick would come to the plate and demolish her third home run of the season to left field onto the roof of the batting cases, putting Ohio up 8-2.

After the Brunswick home run. Shannon Hohman would enter to pitch and would retire the next Bobcat batter. Then with two outs, Cooper would double to right center and then move to third on a single by Holland. Still with two outs, Morgan Geno (Chillicothe, Ohio) would smash a single up the middle, scoring Cooper and putting Holland on third. Michaela Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) would then enter the game for the first time this season to pinch run for Geno. Day would then come to the plate for the second time in the inning and rope a single to center, scoring Holland and ending the game by the final of 10-2.
