ST. LOUIS â€" With a victory in his consolation match Thursday night, junior Noah Forrider (Marysville, Ohio) advances to session three on Friday (March 17) with sophomore Shakur Laney (Canal Winchester, Ohio) as the Ohio wrestling team ends day one at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
Forrider took on Army’s Logan Everett. Everett scored a takedown early in the first, but Forrider scored a reversal and two near-fall points to take a 4-2 lead into the second. Forrider scored takedowns in the second and third only allowing Everett to escape once as Forrider took the match 9-3 with 4:55 of riding time.
Laney (Canal Winchester, Ohio) was matched up against No. 13 seed Darian Cruz of Lehigh in his second-round matchup. The match was scoreless through two. Cruz scored an escape in third defeating Laney by a razor thin margin of 1-0.
Redshirt sophomore Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) was defeated by Dustin Dennison of Utah Valley University in his consolation match in a 3-1 decision.
Session three begins Friday at 11 a.m. ET. Laney will take on Appalachian State’s Vito Pasone and Forrider will take on Oregon State’s Johnathan Hathaway.
