ATHENS, Ohio â The Ohio wrestling team (7-8. 4-4 MAC) falls 38-3 on Sunday (Feb. 19) against American on Senior Day. Redshirt seniors Kevon Powell (Romeoville, Ill.) and Joel Shump (Batavia, Ill.) were honored in a pregame ceremony prior to action beginning.
âWe lost every close match under the sun. They were fired up ready to wrestle and we just werenât for whatever reason,â said head coach Joel Greenlee about the match. Greenlee continued âI hope it makes it them hungrier,â as the team heads into the Mid-American Conference Championships in two weeks.
Former Bobcat great Cody Walters received his All-American ring at halftime of the match as part of the wrestling teamâs Alumni Weekend that was hosted by head coach Joel Greenlee.
âGetting the ring was nice. Itâs amazing to put all those hours and sleepless nights together all for something like that,â said Walters. âItâs the manliest sport in the world and the best prized possession is a piece of jewelry, so thatâs kind of funny.â
