PITTSBURGH – For the second-straight game, the Ohio women’s soccer team (2-3-1) would force the game into overtime, falling to Robert Morris (1-6-0), 1-0, in extra time on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11).

“I give a lot of credit to Robert Morris,” head coach Aaron Rodgers said. “They hadn’t won a game yet this season and they came out with the will to win and they succeeded. We were without some key players due to injury and those players had played a key part in our season. However, we have a lot of depth and it allowed up to give some players opportunities to get minutes. We didn’t start very well and they did. But as the game went on we created some good chances. Outside of Robert Morris’ goal, we created the best shot of the game in the final minutes and forced their goalie to make a great save. Again, this wasn’t our best effort but this is why we play these games. We’re learning to compete Friday, Sunday and in extra time.“

Robert Morris came out firing in the first half. RMU’s first two shots were blocked by the Ohio defense and in the eighth minute, Ohio keeper Erin Beurket (Milford, Ohio) made her first save of the game off a breakaway.

Beurket would make another save off of a header in the ninth minute and another one two minutes later.

Ohio would get its first shot of the game off in the 27^th minute when Madelyn Kah (Hamilton, Ohio) forced the RMU keeper to make a stop.

Beurket would be forced to make two more saves in the final 15 minutes of action in the first period, and the game would go into halftime tied at 0-0.

In the first half, RMU outshot the Bobcats 12-1, with Kah recording Ohio’s only shot of the half. Beurket recorded five saves in the first half and did not allow a goal.

Robert Morris entered the second half just as they did in the first, and immediately forced Beurket to make a save in the 45^th minute.

However, Ohio’s offense started to pick up and in the 47^th minute, Mollie Whitacre (Perrysburg, Ohio) took the Bobcats’ corner and Megan Niebuhr (Cincinnati, Ohio) received the cross and headed the ball high, keeping the game scoreless.

Ohio’s Macey Juguilon (Brunswick, Ohio) would force the RMU keeper to make another save in the 60^th minute.

Whitacre would register her first shot of the game in the 70^th minute, pushing the ball wide left. Then in the 73^rd minute, Remi Eades (New Albany, Ohio) fired a ball high over the keeper, to register her first shot of the game.

In the 78^th minute, Bryce Hueber (Cincinnati, Ohio) would register a shot high. Then a minute later, Courtney Daugerdas (Libertyville, Ill.) would push a shot wide. Daugerdas would continue her strong offensive showing as time expired in regulation, firing the ball at the RMU net, forcing the keeper to make a huge save to send the game into overtime.

At the end of regulation, RMU outshot Ohio 17-10 with Beurket making eight saves and not allowing a goal.

It wouldn’t take long for the overtime to come to an end, with RMU’s Kasia Bak scoring in the 92^nd minute, giving Robert Morris the 1-0 OT win.

Overall, RMU outshot Ohio 19-10, getting nine shots on goal compared to Ohio’s four. Juguilon and Daugerdas both registered two shots, with each getting one on goal. Kah and Allie Curry (Fairfield, Ohio) each registered one shot and one shot on goal, while Eades, Whitacre, Niebuhr and Hueber all registered one shot.

In net, Beurket got the nod once again, making eight saves on 19 shots faced and allowing one goal in 93 minutes of action.

“We’ll learn from this,” Rodgers said. “We just need to get healthy and prepare to Xavier for our last nonconference game. Then we will take what we’ve learned from these out of conference games and get better as we enter MAC play.”

The Bobcats return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 16 when they return to Athens to wrap up nonconference plat against Xavier. First touch is set for 4 p.m. at Chessa Field.
