THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (2-3) fell to host UAB (3-3), 7-2, on Saturday (Feb. 27) in the second game of a three-game weekend series at Regions Field in Birmingham, Ala.
The Blazers clinched the weekend series over the Bobcats with the win. UAB posted a 15-6 triumph over Ohio in the series opener on Friday (Feb. 26).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Blazers outhit the Bobcats, 14-13, and drew 10 walks.
• Senior third baseman John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) hit his first home run of the 2016 season with a one-out solo shot to left field in the top of the eighth inning for Ohio's second run of the ballgame.
• Junior right fielder Spencer Ibarra (Fort Collins, Colo.) collected his first double with the Bobcats.
• Junior second baseman Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) went 1-for-3 with two walks.
• Senior right-handed pitcher Jake Miller (Westerville, Ohio) fell to 1-1 on the season, striking out five in his first start on the mound of the 2015 season. He gave up four runs -- three of which were earned -- on four hits and five walks.
• Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) struck out one and walked one in two innings of relief.
• Redshirt senior right fielder Griffin Gum led UAB at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort that included a double. He drove in two runs and scored two runs.
• Redshirt senior third baseman Esteban Tresgallo went 2-for-5 with a double, drove in a run and scored a run for the Blazers.
• Freshman right-handed reliever Garrett Whitlock earned the pitching win for UAB, fanning four over 4.2 innings of work while giving up one earned run on five hits and a walk.
• The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when freshman designated hitter Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) sent a leadoff single to right and later scored on a balk by UAB junior right-handed pitcher Austin Thomas.
• UAB evened the score with a run in the home half of the second, then tallied three runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to seize command of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Adryan has now tallied eight career home runs.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats aim at finishing the weekend with a win when they take on UAB in the series finale on Sunday (Feb. 28). First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. ET. Junior right-hander Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) is scheduled to make his second start on the bump of the season for Ohio.
