THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (2-0) rallied from an early four-run deficit to top host UNC Asheville (0-2), 14-8, and win the three-game weekend series on on Saturday (Feb. 20) at Greenwood Field in Asheville, N.C.
The Bobcats took a season-opening series from the Bulldogs for the second year in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ohio tallied a season-high 14 runs on 16 hits -- including five doubles. The Green & White's pitching staff limited the Bulldgos to six hits.
• Freshman first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) finished 3-for-3 with a double and drove in three runs.
• Senior third baseman John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) tallied two hits -- including a double -- and collected three RBI and four runs scored.
• Junior second baseman Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) recorded three singles, walked, scored three runs and plated a run.
• Senior center fielder Manny De Jesus (Caguas, Puerto Rico) notched a single, a double and a triple, drove in a run and scored two.
• Junior shortstop Mateus Vakuda (Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded two hits -- including a double -- to go along with two RBI and a run scored in his Ohio debut.
• Junior left fielder Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) doubled, walked three times and scored two runs.
• Sophomore right-handed reliever Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.) earned the victory on the mound, striking out two and walking two in 2.2 frames of work.
• Junior right-handed starting pitcher Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) worked 4.1 innings, fanning seven while allowing seven runs -- six of which were earned -- on six hits and two walks.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tossed a scoreless inning of relief in his Bobcat debut.
• Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Cory Blessing (Mayfield, Ohio) threw one inning of relief, giving up one earned run on a walk. He struck out one.
• Junior center fielder Joe Tietjen led UNC Asheville, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two walks, driving in four runs and scoring another.
• Senior second baseman Lucas Owens went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Bulldogs
• Sophomore southpaw Jordan Fulbright took the loss on the hill for UNC Asheville, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits and a walk in 2.2 frames. He struck out one.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Ohio has won each of the last five games against UNC Asheville.
• Rott is batting a team-best .714 over two games against the Bulldogs with a team-high two doubles, a home run and six RBI.
