HUNTINGTON, W. Va
. - Despite second half goals by Alexis Milesky and Stephanie Rowland, the Ohio women's soccer team fell to Marshall 3-2 on Friday (Sept. 4) evening at the Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

"It showed what we're capable of," head coach Aaron Rodgers said. "We played a pretty good first half and we let in goals that are very correctable. Marshall is a good tea.. I think that they had a couple of really good players and they're a solid team. We gave up a goal at the very beginning of the second half, which we have to come out and start early and start faster. Then early after the lightening delay we gave up that third goal. These are things that we will do better on and we will learn from."

Marshall (4-1-0) struck first, talking a 1-0 lead when Jordan Parkhurst scored on a shot from outside the box that was deflected high and over line.

The Bobcats (0-4-0) had two good chances in the first half, once in the 26th minute on a shot by Carly Manso (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and again in the 27th minute, once again by Manso.

In the first half, Ohio recorded four shots, two of them on goal.

Marshall opened up the second half, taking a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute when Erin Simmons scored on a ball outside the box from the right.

Immediately following the goal, the game was delayed for an hour by lighting.

The Herd added on to their lead when play resumed, taking a 3-0 lead in the 49th minute when Simmons scored her second goal of the game.

Manso created another chance for the Bobcats, registering her third shot on goal of the game in the 58th minute.

Ohio continued to fight, and a little more than a minute later, Ohio got on the board in the 60th minute when Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) scored her first goal of the season, cutting the Marshall lead to 3-1.

The Bobcats continued to create chances, with Milesky and Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky.) recording shots in the 68th and 72nd minute, respectively.

Ohio's pressure finally paid off when Rowland cut the Marshall lead to 3-2 when she netted her first career goal in the 87th minute when Hannah Jaggers (Taylorsville, Ky.) centered the ball to Rowland who then chipped it from the left into the right side of the goal.

Ohio pressured until the very end, with Jaggers firing the ball at the Marshall net as time expired, however the Bobcats would fall by the final of 3-2.

"Something clicked in our heads and we were very good and created chance after chance after chance," Rodgers said. "We outshot them in the second half. We had more corner kicks then they did. We just came up a little short at the end. The girls fought hard until the very last minute and we can take a lot from that."

In total, Ohio registered 13 shots, seven of them on goal. Leading the Bobcats was Manso who recorded five shots, three of them on goal in her 84 minutes of action. Milesky had two shots and a goal and Jaggers also added two shots for Ohio. Rowland registered four shots, two on goal and one goal for the Bobcats.

In goal, Erin Beurket (Milford, Ohio) got the start for the Bobcats, allowing three goals on four chances.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. inside the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex. The game can be seen on the SEC Network Plus or the WatchESPN App.
