Ohio vs. Robert Morris Box Score
ATHENS, Ohio â€" On goals from Alexis Milesky, Megan Niebuhr and Holly Harris, the Ohio women's soccer team secured a 3-0 shutout victory over Robert Morris on Friday evening at Chessa Field.
Ohio (1-5-0) recorded 20 total shot attempts compared to eight by the Colonials (1-5-0). The Bobcats also earned eight corners compared to four for Robert Morris.
“It’s always great to win,†head coach Aaron Rodgers said. “I told the girls when we were two up at halftime that most importantly, let’s keep the shut out, and we did that and added a goal. I think we created a lot of good chances and from having some disappointment, as we’ve had the last few games, to come back out and get a victory and slug it out at the end really feels good.â€
Early In the first half, junior forward Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) scored a header directly in front of the net in the third minute assisted by teammate and sophomore defender Celeste Fushimi-Karns. Sophomore midfielder Niebuhr followed with another goal for Ohio in the 12th minute from five feet out in front of an open net.
In goal, freshman Taylor Smith (Uniontown, Ohio) allowed no goals and recorded one save in the first half.
“That’s something we talked about all week, we’ve got to be the aggressor, we have to be the one that takes the game to the other team,†Rodgers said. “Too many times, we’ve allowed other teams to come at us and we have gotten behind. Today, we made it a priority for our team to be the aggressor and score the first goal and we got three unanswered, which was big for us.â€
In the conclusion of the second half, redshirt junior forward Harris (Taylorsville, Ky.) added one to Ohio’s score with a shot from the left side off of the right post, marking her first goal of the season.
“It’s so exciting, it was my first of the season,†said Harris. “We’ve been working so hard and I think it’s exciting for us to finally come out and win and score not just one, but three goals. It just feels so good to score and get that win.â€
Smith put up a fight in goal recording two saves and a shutout in her first career start.
Overall, Ohio had 20 shots, with 13 of them on goal. Leading the Bobcats was Harris with five shots, followed by Niebuhr with four. Freshman Stephanie Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky.) had four shots, while Milesky, Hannah Jaggers (Taylorsville, Ky.) and freshman Madelyn Kah (Hamilton, Ohio) each had two. Sophomore Allie Curry (Fairfield, Ohio) rounded out the shots with one.
Ohio will be back in action Friday Sept. 18 at Xavier. Kick off is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Xavier University Soccer Complex.
