WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. â€" The Ohio women’s soccer team kicked off the 2015 regular season Friday evening, falling to Purdue 3-0 at the Boilermaker Soccer Complex.
Purdue (1-0-0) struck early, scoring in the fifth minute when Maddy Williams scored point blank with one-touch after a left-to-right cross, giving the Boilermaker’s a 1-0 lead.
“Purdue played a great game and really tested us,†head coach Aaron Rodgers said. “I know we gained some valuable experience and will grow as a group. I am excited for what this team can accomplish this season.â€
To start the second half Purdue recorded a goal quickly in the 48th minute when Williams netted her second goal of the evening, giving the Boilermakers a 2-0 lead.
Ohio (0-1-0) had a chance for a come back after a corner kick by Carly Manso (Vernon Hills, Ill.) but the Purdue goalkeeper successfully stopped the ball.
Purdue secured the 3-0 victory in the 89th minute when the Boilermakers’ Andrea Petrina netted the final goal of the match.
Ohio recorded nine total shots, led by Manso and freshman Macey Juguilon (Brunswick, Ohio) who each registered two shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Cordoba (Bogota, Cundinamarca, Colombia) put up a fight in goal recording eight saves in her 90 minutes of work.
Ohio will be back in action Friday, Aug. 28 at Detroit. The Bobcats and Titans will kick off at 3 p.m.
