ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio softball team wrapped up the regular season on Sunday afternoon, falling to Akron 8-1 at the Ohio Softball Field.

Akron (24-24, 9-10 MAC) struck first in the top of the first inning on a two-RBI triple by Taryn Allmon to put Akron up 2-0.

Ohio (15-30, 7-11 MAC) quickly responded, cutting the score in half in the bottom of the frame. The scoring began when Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas) reached on an infield hit and then advanced to third on a double by senior Timmie Rappe (Wheaton, Ill.). Walker would then score on an RBI single through the middle by senior Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio), cutting the score to 2-1.

After a scoreless second inning, Akron put four runs on the board in top of the third inning, highlighted by Sara Pearson's three-run homerun to help put Akron ahead 6-1.

The Bobcats threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio) led off the inning with a base hit, followed by an infield single by Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.). Walker would them to second and third on a ground out, however, they would not score and the Zips would continue to lead 6-1.

Akron added on two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-1 lead, which would be the final.

At the plate, the Bobcats had eight hits, led by Rappe who went 3-for-4 with a double. Cooper went 2-for-2 and Dalton and Walker each had a hit. Clarke added a hit for the Bobcats along with an RBI. Senior Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, M.D.) reached base by drawing a walk and senior Raven King (Alpine, Utah) reached when she was hit by a pitch.

In the circle, senior Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) got the start, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out one. Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three.

Prior to the game, the Bobcats honored seniors McClary, Clarke, Rappe, Gebele, King and Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) for their accomplishments during their time as a Bobcat.

The Bobcat return to action Wednesday, May 6 when they head to Akron, Ohio take on top-seeded Kent State in the opening round of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Tournament at Firestone Stadium. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
