ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Central Michigan on Friday. The Bobcats lost game one by a score of 8-1 while taking a 14-3 defeat in five innings in the second game.

In the first game on the doubleheader, Central Michigan (12-15, 2-2 MAC) struck first, taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first powered by homeruns from Katelyn Rentschler and Chelsea DeLamielleure.

The Bobcats (9-20, 2-2 MAC) answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first, as Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) led off the inning with a triple to right center and was driven home by Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) on a double to right field.

Both teams were held scoreless for the next four innings until Central Michigan added three runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by a homerun by Maison Kalina.

Central Michigan added another run in the top of the seventh to take an 8-1 lead, which would be the final score.

Ohio finished with three hits with extra-base hits by Dalton and Hutchinson and a single by Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, Md.). Gebele reached base three times in the first game, also finding her way to first base by a walk and an error.

In the circle, Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing four earned runs on four hits. Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) entered the game in relief and went for six and a third innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, two walks and six strikeouts.

The Chippewas would open the scoring in the second game as well, with Rentschler hitting a solo home run to provide Central Michigan with a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.

Ohio answered in the bottom half of the frame with Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) driving in both Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio) and Raven King (Alpine, Utah) on a two-out single to left field. Clarke and King both advanced into scoring position earlier in the at-bat on a pitch in the dirt.

Central Michigan added three runs in the third as a one-out, two-run homer by Rentschler gave the Chippewas a 4-2 lead.

The Bobcats added a run in the bottom of the third on a single by Hutchinson that brought home Dalton, who reached base via a throwing error.

The Chippewas added to their lead in the fourth, scoring nine runs to take a 13-3 lead. Three of the runs came on a home run by Rentschler, who hit four home runs over the course of the twin bill.

Ohio notched four hits in the second game, with Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ga.), Timmie Rappe (Wheaton, Ill.), Hutchinson and Pyles getting one hit each. Claytor, King and Dalton each scored runs for the Bobcats.
