ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio softball team dropped the final game of a two-game series to Miami, 10-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Ohio Softball Field.
Miami scored first in the top of the second inning off of a two-run homerun by Kaitlyn Gliha to put the RedHawks up 2-0.
The Bobcats cut the score in half in the bottom of the third inning. In the inning, Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) reached base when she singled to left center. She then stole second and then scored when Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas) smoked the ball to left center, cutting the score to 2-1.
After two scoreless innings, Miami added on in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Taylor Shuey, putting the RedHawks up 7-1.
Ohio got base runners in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio) reached on an error by the pitcher and then advanced to second when Raven King (Alpine, Utah) walked. However, neither would score and Miami would continue to lead 7-1.
The RedHawks would add on in the top of the seventh, scoring three more runs to take a 10-1 lead, which would be the final score.
At the plate, the Bobcats had two hits, led by Dalton and Walker who each had a base hit. Dalton would also add a run scored and Walker would add an RBI and reach on an error. King would reach via a base on balls and Clarke would reach on an error.
In the circle, Leanna Bachman (Carroll, Ohio) got the start, allowing two runs on five hits and struck out two in 2.2 innings. Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) pitched three innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out two and Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits.
The Bobcats return to action next weekend when they wrap up the regular season against Akron in a two-game series May 2-3 at the Ohio Softball Field. On Saturday, May 2, first pitch is set for 4:30 with the series wrapping up Sunday, May 3 at 1 p.m.
