THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (23-15) used a three-run home run by senior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) and nine shutout frames by six pitchers to blank Eastern Kentucky (14-22), 6-0, on Tuesday (April 21) at Bob Wren Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with his first dinger of the season to lead the Bobcat attack.
- Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.), senior southpaw Spencer Sapp (Jasper, Ind.), sophomore righty Christian Botter (Toronto, Ontario), sophomore right-hander Corey Wells (Lexington, Ky.), sophomore righty Tom Colletti (Wheaton, Ill.) and senior right-hander Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) combined to toss nine shutout frames. Sapp picked up the pitching win to improve to 1-0 on the season, fanning two while giving up one hit. Jacik struck out one and gave up one hit in two innings. Wells tallied one strikeout and allowed one hit in one inning. Colletti and Cozart each threw two innings, with Colletti striking out one while giving up two hits and Cozart posting two strikeouts. The pitching staff did not surrender a walk.
- Junior Manny Alvarez led the Colonels at the plate with a double and a single.
- Senior right-handed starting pitcher Ben Gullo took the mound loss for Eastern Kentucky, falling to 0-3 on the year. He fanned four while giving up five earned runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings of work.
- The Bobcats broke through for two runs in the bottom of the third. Redshirt senior David Hamlett (Stockton, Calif.) led off with a base hit back up the middle, then scored on a double to left by junior Manny De Jesus (Caguas, P.R.). De Jesus advanced to third on a balk by Gullo, then scored one out later on an RBI ground out to second by sophomore Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio).
- De Jesus got the fifth inning going by coaxing a one-out walk, then moving to second on a wild pitch. Longo was hit by a pitch one out later, putting two on with two outs. Madsen capitalized on the opportunity with a three-run blast over the right field wall to increase Ohio's advantage to 5-0.
- Ohio got one last insurance run in the seventh as Longo hit a one-out single to right, moved to third on a base hit to right by Madsen and then scored on a wild pitch.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ohio recorded its first shutout since blanking Bowling Green, 11-0, in game out of a doubleheader on April 29, 2012.
- Madsen is now five hits away from becoming Ohio's all-time leader. His 265 career base knocks rank fourth in school history. Madsen recorded his 14th multi-hit game of the year and sixth multi-RBI game of the season. He's reached base safely in a team-high 11 straight games.
- De Jesus has a team-high seven-game hitting streak going.
- Redshirt junior Cody Gaertner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) -- the reigning Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week -- has reached base safely in eight straight games and is on a five-game hitting streak.
