ATHENS, Ohio-- The Ohio softball team (12-22, 4-4 MAC) took on Dayton (28-12, 12-2 A-10) at the Ohio Softball Field on Tuesday (April 14) and emerged victorious by an 8-2 margin.

The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a double to leftfield by Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ga.) that scored Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) and Raven King (Alpine, Utah). Hutchinson reached base earlier in the inning on a two-out single to right field and advanced to second when King was hit by a pitch.

Ohio added to that lead the following inning when Hutchinson knocked a two-out, bases loaded double to the right field wall, scoring Timmie Rappe (Wheaton, Ill.), Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) and Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas). All three had reached base via fielder's choice. A two-out single by King scored Hutchinson and provided Ohio with a 6-0 lead through two innings.

Dayton put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth as a double by Kailee Budicin scored both Hannah DeSalvo and Gabrielle Snyder, narrowing the Ohio advantage to 6-2.

The Ohio lead was extended to six in the bottom of the fifth, as a double by Sam Bowlsbey (Farmingdale, N.J.) scored both King and Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio).

At the plate, Hutchinson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Bowlsbey and Claytor each drove in two runs and King scored twice. Dalton, Walker, Cooper and Rappe all scored a run for Ohio.

In the circle, Leanna Bachman (Carroll, Ohio) got the start, pitching three innings while allowing three hits and two runs and four strikeouts. Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) pitched one and two-thirds innings, permitting two hits, walking one and striking out one. Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) pitched the final two and a third innings of the game, holding the Flyers without a hit while striking out five.

Up next, the Bobcats will travel north to Bowling Green on Friday (April 17) for a double header against the Falcons. First pitch of game one is at for 1 p.m. with game two scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
