@OhioBobcatSB Rallies, but Falls Short Against Kent State

KENT, Ohio -- The Ohio softball team rallied from an early 4-0 deficit, but would ultimately fall to Kent State 9-6 in the final game of a two-game series Sunday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix.

Kent State (26-9, 7-2 MAC) struck first in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead on back-to-back solo homeruns by Dani Ramos and Maddy Grimm. The Golden Flashes added on another run in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead.

After Kent State took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bobcat (11-22, 4-4 MAC) bats busted out, putting a six spot on the board. The inning began when Raven King (Alpine, Utah) was hit by a pitch. Next, Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ga.) hit a two-run homerun to centerfield, putting Ohio on the board. Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, M.D.) then reached first on a single and then advanced to second on a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt by Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio). Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) and Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas) then both reached on infield singles to load the bases. Then Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) hit a three-run infield single when the short stop lost the ball in the sun, allowing the bases to clear and Hutchinson to reach third. Hutchinson would then score on an infield single by Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio), putting Ohio up 6-4.

Then after a scoreless inning, Kent State would retake the lead, scoring five runs on the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run homerun by Michele Duffy to give the Golden Flashes the 9-6 lead.

The Bobcats would mount a rally in the top of the seventh, when Pyles led the inning off with a single, However, she would end up stranded at second and the Golden Flashes would win by the final of 9-6.

At the plate, the Bobcats had nine hits. Pyles led the way, going 2-for-3 with a run scores and Walker went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Hutchinson went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, a run score and a walk. Claytor was 1-for-3 at the plate with a homerun, a run scored and two RBIs. Clarke was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Cooper and Gebele each added a base hit for Ohio.

In the circle, Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) got the start, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on four hits. Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits, and Cooper would pitch two innings, allowing five runs on five hits.

The Bobcats return to action this Tuesday, April 14 when they host Dayton for a doubleheader at the Ohio Softball Field. Game one is set for 4 p.m. with game two following at 6 p.m.
