THE BASICS
Despite junior right-handed starting pitcher Jake Miller (Westerville, Ohio) striking out six batters over six innings in his second start of the 2015 season, the Ohio baseball team (18-13, 5-5 MAC) dropped the opening game of a three-game set against Bowling Green (10-18, 4-6 MAC), 4-2, on Friday (April 10) at Bob Wren Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miller allowed three runs -- two of which were earned -- on eight hits. He suffered the pitching defeat, falling to 2-2 on the year.
- Senior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 1-for-4 with one run scored.
- Senior Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
-Sophomore Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
- Sophomore right-handed reliever Tom Colletti (Wheaton, Ill.) pitched three innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk. He struck out one.
- Bowling Green senior right-handed starting pitcher Jason Link lasted 5.2 innings, permitting two runs -- one of which was earned -- on six hits. He tallied one strikeout and earned the mound triumph to improve to 1-2 on the season.
- Sophomore righty Tony Landi threw 3.1 perfect innings out of the bullpen for the Falcons, striking out one to pick up his second save of the season.
- Redshirt senior Brandon Howard went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Bowling Green.
- Junior Matt Smith was 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Falcons.
- Junior Kory Brown went 2-for-5 with two runs scored for Bowling Green.
- Freshman Randy Righter tallied two hits and drew a walk for the Falcons.
- Senior shortstop Garrett Black (Ohio) knocked a one-out infield single off of Link in the bottom of the first inning. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt moved Black to second, and a single to right field by Longo brought him across home plate to provide Ohio with a 1-0 lead.
- Bowling Green answered in the top of the third. Brown hit a one-out single, and Howard followed by being hit by a pitch. A throwing error scored Brown, and a single by Smith brought home Howard to give the Falcons a 2-1 advantage.
- The Falcons increased their advantage to two runs in the fifth. Howard knocked a two-out single, then moved to second as redshirt sophomore Trey Keegan was hit by a pitch. Smith then hit his second RBI single of the game, once again scoring Howard and providing Bowling Green with a 3-1 lead.
- Ohio cut its deficit down to a run in the bottom half of the sixth. Madsen smacked a two-out single to center and advanced to second via a wild pitch. Wells drove in Madsen in the next at-bat on a single to left center to cut the Falcon advantage to 3-2.
- Bowling Green posted its fourth and final run in the ninth when Brown hit a leadoff single to center, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Howard and then scored on a double to right center by Keegan.
- Landi sealed the victory for the Falcons by retiring the Bobcats in order in the home half of the ninth.

QUOTABLE
Third-Year Coach Rob Smith
- "(Miller) pitched extremely well. He gave us six quality innings. You've got to be able to generate probably a little bit more offense in this situation, but that's baseball. We hit some hard balls right at some guys, and they weren't falling for us."
