Final Stats

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Ohio softball team fell to Marshall 18-3 in a midweek matchup this afternoon at Dot Hicks Field.

Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, the Bobcats and Herd ended up only playing one game.

Marshall got out to a fast start, going up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Thundering Herd added on four more in the bottom of the second inning, taking an early 6-0 lead.

The Bobcats cut the Herd lead in half in the top of the third inning. The scoring began when Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio) reached base on an error by the centerfielder and then moved to second on a base bit by Timmie Rappe (Wheaton, Ill.). The next batter, Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas) reached on an error to load the bases. Two batters later, Walker, Rappe and Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) would all score when Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) reached base on errors, cutting the Marshall lead to 6-3.

Marshall would respond, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the third, and then would score three more in the bottom of the fourth to take an 18-3 lead.

The Bobcats would threaten to add runs to the board in the top of the fifth when Cooper led off the inning with a walk and then Walker would hit a single to second, however the Bobcats could not get a run across and would fall by the final of 18-3.

At the plate, the Bobcats had two hits. Walker went 1-for-3 with a run scored and Rappe went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Cooper reached base on a walk and Dalton registered the Bobcats other run.

In the circle, Leanna Bachman (Carroll, Ohio) pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing 14 runs on 12 hits and striking out one. Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio) pitched an inning and a third and gave up four runs on five hits and struck out one.

The Bobcats finally get to open the home portion of their schedule this weekend, taking on Niagara on Saturday, March 21 at 5 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field. The second game of the series will take place Sunday, March 22 at 1 p.m. Admission is free to all fans, however there will not be concessions and due to high school basketball, there will be a $5 charge for parking.
