Black Named MAC East Player of the Week

ATHENS, Ohio â€" Ohio women’s basketball senior guard Kiyanna Black has been named the Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week for her performance for the week of Dec. 14, the league announced today.

Black (Columbus, Ohio) led Ohio to a perfect 2-0 weekend at the Seahawks Hampton Inn Christmas Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington.

On Friday, Dec. 18 against host UNCW, Black scored a season-high 26 points in the 75-59 victory. Black was 10-of-18 (55.5%) from the field and 5-of-11 (45.4%) from beyond the arc. She also hit one of her two free throws. Black also added five rebounds, two assists, five steals and one block to her stats.

The following day against East Carolina, Black picked up where she left off, scoring 20 points, 17 in the first half, to help lead Ohio to the thrilling 64-61 victory. The win was the first over the Pirates since 2001. Black shot 38.8% (7-of-18) from the field and 5-of-13 (38.4%) from beyond the arc. She also hit one of her two free throws.

Along with her 20 points, Black grabbed four rebounds and snagged two steals.

Overall on the weekend, Black scored 46 points and shot 17-of-36 (47.2%) from the field and 10-of-24 (41.6%) from three-point range. Black was also 2-of-4 from the free throw line while adding nine rebounds, two assists, eight steals and one block. Black is now fifth all-time in program history in scoring and continues to lead the Bobcats with 18.3 points a contest.

Ohio returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, Dec. 29 with they close out non-conference play against Middle Tennessee State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
