ATHENS, Ohio â€" Ohio women’s basketball senior guard Kiyanna Black was named the Mid-American Conference East Co-Player of the Week for her performance during the week of Nov. 23, the league announced today (Dec. 1).
Black (Columbus, Ohio) was also named the College Sports Madness MAC Player of the Week.
Black led Ohio offensively over the weekend at the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 27-28. In the Bobcats' 63-56 victory over Big 10 opponent Indiana, Black led the team in scoring with 17 points, going 6-of-17 from the field and 3-of-12 from three-point range. She added three rebounds and one assist in her 24 minutes of action. Black also made both free throws in the victory. Ohio's win against Indiana was the first victory against a Big 10 opponent since 1994.
The following day against Vanderbilt in the tournament championship game, Black scored a season-high 25 points, going 8-of-16 from the field and 6-of-13 from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds and one steal in the Ohio's 62-59 loss. Black was also 3-of-8 from the free throw line.
Overall on the weekend, Ohio went 1-1 with Black scoring 42 points, grabbing seven boards and registering one assist and one steal. Black went 14-of-33 from the field and 9-of-25 from three-point range.
Ohio returns to the hardwood on Thursday, Dec. 3 against IPFW. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. inside the Convocation Center and will serve as the Bobcats’ Education Day.
