LOUISVILLE, Ky. â€" The Ohio swimming and diving team wrapped up the first day of the UofL Invitational on Friday (Nov. 20) sitting in second place, with a first day total of 397 points.
Louisville currently sits in first place with 679.5 points.
Day one of the meet kicked off with the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Josie Barker (Richmond, N.Yorkshire, Eng.) placed eighth with a ending time of 4:58.29 while junior Bianca Hauzer (Bedfordview, South Africa) followed behind in 11th in 4:57.46 and freshman Ana Henderson (Danville, Calif.) took the 13th place spot with her time of 4:57.86. Ohio also claimed the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th spots thanks to redshirt senior Stephanie Gyurke (5:07.21), freshman Emily Davis (5:04.38), sophomore Katie Lemen (5:05.81) and freshman Maddie Wyke (5:09.84).
The next event for the Bobcats was the 200-yard IM in which junior Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, Eng.) claimed fifth, finishing with a time of 2:03.88. Gyurke (Bellevue, Ohio) finished 10th in 2:06.33, while sophomore Elena Patz (Waunakee, Wis.) finished 19th in 2:08.65 and redshirt senior Kelse Johnson (Centennial, Colo) finished 24th in 2:11.33.
Next up was the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) finished strong in fourth place, touching in at 23.23. Senior Haley Clark (College Station, Texas) followed inches behind, finishing in fifth place with a time of 23.70. Senior Addison Ferguson (Westfield Center, Ohio) placed ninth, touching in at 23.57 while Barker placed 16th in 24.37. Freshman Lexie White and junior Carrie Dukes (Monkton, Md.) took the 19th and 20th spots with their respective 24.40 and 24.49 times while Lemen (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman Mackenzie Hornstra (Naperville, Ill.) took 23rd and 25th, Lemen finishing in 24.72 and Hornstra in 24.82.
During the 200-yard freestyle relay, the “A†team of Ferguson, Clark, Dawson and Van Lanen took second place, finishing in 1:33.90.
Next was the 400-yard Medley Relay. The “A†team of Ferguson, Hornstra, Dawson and Van Lanen once again took second, finishing in 3:47.16.
Following the relay was the first diving competition of the night, the 3-meter, in which redshirt senior Haleigh Bartlett (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) claimed first, finishing with a final score of 306.75. Sophomore Karrisa Conner (Granite Bay, Calif.) placed sixth with a score of 207.05.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow for the second day of the UofL Invitational.
