Short Story: The Ohio field hockey team (8-8) could not capitalize on a two-goal first-half lead and fell to No. 16-ranked Northwestern (12-6), 4-2, on Sunday (Oct. 25) at Pruitt Field in Athens, Ohio.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Wildcats led the Bobcats in both shots (20-4) and penalty corners (10-7).
• The Bobcats jumped ahead to a quick 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, converting on a penalty corner chance as senior Clarissa Leickly (Gahanna, Ohio) found the back of the cage for a career-high sixth time in 2015, taking feeds from senior Adele Sammons (Upminster, England) and junior Kristen Buchanan (San Diego, Calif.) to set up a shot from in front of the keeper. Sammons recorded her career-high 11th assist of the year, which leads the team, while Buchanan provided her career-high seventh helper of the season.
• Sammons increased Ohio’s lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute, dribbling the ball from left-center of the goal to the right side and firing a strong shot past the keeper for her career-high ninth goal of the season.
• Northwestern shaved Ohio’s lead to 2-1 in the 29th minute when junior midfielder Dominique Masters tapped the ball into the cage after a pass from junior midfielder/forward Isabel Flens. Flens notched her sixth assist of the season.
• Masters evened the match at two-all less than three minutes into the start of the second half for the Wildcats, finding the back of the cage for the second time in the contest by converting a breakaway chance that was set up by an assist by freshman midfielder Puck Pentenga.
• Northwestern scored again in the 40th minute to take a 3-2 lead. Senior back Lisa McCarthy tallied her third goal of the year on a penalty corner chance, taking an assist from Pentenga, who logged her second helper of the match and fifth of the season.
• Masters made it a hat trick in the 50th minute to increase Northwestern’s lead to 4-2, upping her season goal total to 13 on a penalty corner chance. Senior midfielder Charlotte Martin and McCarhty assisted on the score, with Martin recorded her 10th helper of the year and McCarthy her 11th.
• Leickly and Sammons lead the match with two shots apiece, with both of Sammons’ coming on goal and one of Leickly’s doing so as well. Leickly leads the Bobcats with a career-high 42 shots and 25 shots on goal while Sammons ranks second with 40 shots and 24 shots on goal.
• Redshirt junior goalkeeper Lina Trucco (Lake Bluff, Ill.) notched a career-high 12 saves in 70 minutes of work for the Bobcats, increasing her season total to a career-high 69 stops.
• Masters led the match with 10 shots -- including eight on goal -- for Northwestern, bringing her season total to a team-high 102 shots and 63 shots on goal.
• Pentenga added three shots on goal for the Wildcats, upping her season total to 20 shots -- including 14 on goal.
• McCarthy chipped in two shots on goal for Northwestern. Her season total now stands at eight shots, with six coming on goal.
• Flens finished with two shots â€" including one on goal. She has now posted 74 shots this year -- including 51 on goal.
• Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay von der Luft recorded save for the Wildcats, bringing her season total to 47.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• The 'Cats have scored 40 goals through 16 matches in 2015 after scoring just 20 in 17 matches during the entire '14 season. Ohio has also earned 118 penalty corners this year after garnering 86 all of last year.
• Sammons' career assist total currently stands at 19 while her career goal total is now at 16. She has now notched 95 career shots, with 52 coming on goal. 
• Leickly has now posted six career goals. She has now logged 54 career shots, with 32 coming on goal.
• Buchanan has now tallied eight career assists.
• Trucco's career saves total is now up to 78.
