ATHENS, Ohio â€" The Ohio women’s soccer team continued Mid-American Conference play on the road on Friday (Oct. 23), falling to Toledo by a final of 3-0.

“We are all disappointed with the outcome of today’s game,” head coach Aaron Rodgers said. “Toledo battled really hard and deserved the win.”

In the first half, the Bobcats recorded two shots and two corners. In the first 45 minutes of the game, neither team could put a shot in the net resulting in a scoreless first half.

In goal, freshman Taylor Smith (Uniontown, Ohio) allowed no goals and recorded six saves on the 11 shots she faced in the first half.

It wasn’t until the 74th minute that Toledo’s Sophie Pohl netted the first goal of the game off a shot that was picked up off of a blocked shot and brushed past the post to give them the 1-0 lead.

Shortly after in the 78th minute, the Rockets’ Brooke Maletic would score on a shot to the left corner of the goal to increase the lead to 2-0.

Toledo would finalize the score at 3-0 when Isabella Echeverri headed the ball in off an assist from teammate Geri Siudzinski in the 82nd minute.

Ohio (5-11-0, 3-6-0 MAC) recorded three total shot attempts, compared to 23 shots by the Rockets (7-11, 3-6) for the game.

“We need to regroup quickly and be ready for a good Central Michigan team on Sunday,” Rodgers said. “We have been able to get results this year after big disappointments so I know we will be ready to compete on Sunday These next two games are extremely pivotal in us making the MAC tournament.”

Freshman forward Stephanie Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky.), junior midfielder Kinsey Swartztrauber (Clayton, Ohio), and junior midfielder Natalie Estes (Zionsville, Ind.) each tallied a single shot for Ohio’s shot total.

Smith recorded 12 saves on the game while allowing three goals in her 90 minutes of work.

Ohio will be back in action Sunday (Oct. 25) for Senior Day when they play host Central Michigan at 1 p.m. at Chessa Field.
