ATHENS, Ohioâ€"In the 105th minutes on a goal by Stephanie Rowland in double overtime, Ohio secured a 2-1 win against Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois at Chessa Field on rainy Friday (Oct. 2) evening.

“I just knew I wanted to get the goal and I did not want to lose,” said Rowland (Pee Wee Valley, Ky). “We lost every overtime last year and I did not want that to happen again. We wanted to pull out a win and it just happened to be me that put in the goal.”

After the Huskies’ struck first in the 51st minute, junior forward Alexis Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) put one in for the Bobcats on a shot from the right of the keeper into the net from her left on an assist from Rowland in the 59th minute of the game to tie it up at 1-1.

In the scoreless first half, the Bobcats registered eleven shots, with seven of them on goal, while the Huskies recorded two shots, one of them on goal.

In goal for Ohio, freshman
Taylor Smith
(Uniontown, Ohio) stared her fifth-straight game for the Bobcats, recording five saves and allowing one goal in her 110 minutes of work.

“We just kept telling them to stay positive,” head coach Aaron Rodgers said. “And to continue to be creative in the attack and be aggressive on the attack and that’s how we’re going to get chances to score.”

Overall, Ohio registered 23 shots, 19 of them on goal. Sophomore midfielder Hannah Jaggers
(Taylorsville, Ky.) led the way for the Bobcats recording five shots while Rowland and Milesky both added four. Redshirt junior midfielder Carly Manso (Vernon Hills, Ill.) tallied three shots and senior midfielder Leah Sandercock (Strongsville, Ohio) added two while Megan Niebuhr, Mandy Arnzen, Madelyn Kah, Allie Curry, and Holly Harris each added one shot.

The Bobcats continue MAC play on Sunday (Oct. 4) when they play host to Western Michigan at Chessa Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
