ATHENS, Ohio â€" After sweeping the first seven bouts of the day, the Ohio wrestling team (7-4, 3-3 MAC) earned its second Mid-American Conference win of the week against Buffalo on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio.
Redshirt junior No. 8 Tywan Claxton (South Euclid, Ohio) and redshirt junior Spartak Chino (Wheaton, Ill.) posted back-to-back major decisions at the 149 and 157 classes, respectively. With the win, Claxton improves his overall record to 22-2 and 4-2 in MAC competition.
Redshirt senior Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio) improved his overall record to 20-7 with a 7-0 decision against Buffalo’s Rrok Ndokaj at the 165-class.
No. 8 Cody Walters (Macedonia, Ohio) followed suit, recording his 18th consecutive win at the 174-class. The redshirt junior holds a team-high record of 24-1 and is undefeated in MAC competition.
Redshirt junior Andrew Romanchik (Independence, Ohio) posted an 8-2 decision to record his third-consecutive triumph, improving his overall record to 22-9. Since moving to the 184-class on Dec. 5, Romanchik has lost just three bouts.
No. 16 Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio) extended his undefeated MAC record with a16-6 major decision at the 197-class. This is the redshirt junior’s sixth-consecutive win and seventh major decision on the season.
Freshman Jesse Webb (Bennington, VT) earned his first win in the Convocation Center with a 3-2 decision against Buffalo’s Mike Silvis at the heavyweight class.
Buffalo ended the shutout at the 125-class and continued to claim the remaining two bouts.
