BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Ohio University field hockey team (0-3) dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of California (2-2) in a neutral-site contest at the IU Field Hockey Complex on Saturday (Sept. 6).
"We were outplayed today, and, unfortunately, we weren’t able to keep up with Cal, tactically," said 10th-year head coach Neil Macmillan. "We did a great job with our effort and our energy on the field, and we showed a lot of positive keeping our head in the game and keeping the flow going."
Freshman
Elena Curley (Louisville, Ky.) led the Bobcats with a career-high two shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Brittany Walker (Elizabethtown, Pa.) compiled a season-high eight saves in the loss.
"Our defense was resolute today," said Macmillan. "(Junior) Adele (Sammons) did a great job in the back. Everyone else who played across the backline did a really good job for us today. Britt played well in goal and kept us in the game."
Cal senior Lara Kruggel led the match with eight shots -- including a match-high two goals. She scored in the fifth minute courtesy of an assist from redshirt senior forward Andrea Earle, then found the back of the cage for a second time on a penalty shot in the 38th minute.
Freshman midfielder/forward Alie Zimmer made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal in the 54th minute. She finished the contest with two shots.
Freshman midfielder Paula Seibt totaled three shots for the Golden Bears while Earle added two more.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Courtney Hendrickson earned the victory in cage for Cal, totaling two saves.
