ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team (5-21, 1-6 MAC) fell to Kent State (17-10, 5-2 MAC) in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Bob Wren Stadium by the score of 11-1.
Junior Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) highlighted the Bobcat offense with two hits, while freshman Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) and junior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) each collected a hit to extend their current hitting streaks. Longo now holds a career-high 10 game-hitting streak, while Madsen's streak improves to seven games. This also marked Madsen's 131st-consecutive start for the `Cats.
Freshman starting pitcher Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) lasted 6.1 innings en route to his fourth loss of the season (2-4, 4.73 ERA).
Kent State jumped out to the early lead after it plated two runs on four hits in the top of the first. Ohio scored its first run of the game one inning later on a bases loaded walk to bring sophomore John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) around to put the `Cats within one at the end of the second.
The Flashes extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth when first baseman Cody Koch hit a solo home run over the left field wall. KSU added another run in the sixth to pull ahead 4-1.
The game was busted open in the seventh, when Kent State plated seven runs on five hits. Roehn exited the game after allowing five runs, and the Flashes worked through `Cats relief pitcher junior Spencer Sapp (Jasper, Ind.) to tack on two more runs and bring the game to its final score of 11-1.
Ohio looks to even the series in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
