Ohio Softball Edged By Akron In Series Opener

AKRON, Ohio - Sophomore pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) recorded eight strikeouts, but the Ohio University softball team (26-21, 10-5 MAC) took a 2-0 loss to Mid-American Conference East Division foe Akron (23-13, 8-5 MAC) in the weekend series opener on Saturday (April 26) at Lee Jackson Field.

The Zips plated two runs in the home half of the second inning for the winning margin.

Dorsey tossed all six innings for the Bobcats and upped her single-season school-record strikeout total to 215.

Sophomore Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.), freshman Taylor Saxton (Circleville, Ohio), sophomore Alexia Cortez (Beaufort, S.C.) and Dorsey accounted for Ohio's four hits.

Ohio looks to finish the weekend with a series split with Akron in its final road game of the 2014 regular season on Sunday (April 27). First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
