Ohio Softball Falls To Ball State In Series Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ohio University softball team (25-18, 10-3 MAC) dropped a 10-0 decision in five innings to Ball State (25-15, 6-3 MAC) on Saturday (April 19) in the opening game of a Mid-American Conference cross-division series at the BSU Softball Complex.

The Cardinals plated one run in the bottom of the first inning, three in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth to defeat the Bobcats.

Sophomores Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) and Alexia Cortez (Beufort, S.C.) accounted for Ohio's two hits. Dalton has hit safely in 26 of Ohio's 43 games in 2014.

Sophomore Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) struck out six in 3.1 innings of work, bringing her season total to 199 - the second-most strikeouts in a single season in Ohio history. Junior Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) tallied the final two outs in the home half of the fourth.

Ohio looks to finish the weekend with a series split at Ball State and a 3-1 mark in the fourth weekend of league action when the Bobcats take on the Cardinals in the finale on Sunday (April 20). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
