TOLEDO, Ohio - Freshman right-hander Jake Roehn worked 8.0 innings, but it was not enough as the Ohio University baseball team was shutout 3-0 by the University of Toledo Friday afternoon at Scott Park.
Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) gave up just one earned run and struck out four as he fell to 2-6 on the year. His Friday afternoon performance also marked his third quality start in the last four outings.
Ohio's three-run setback to the Rockets marked the 14th time this season Ohio has dropped a game by three runs or less.
As a team, Ohio outhit the Rockets 7-5, but also suffered two errors. The second error proved to be the most costly as it opened the door to a pair of Toledo runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
Both teams were held scoreless for the first five innings, but in the sixth, Toledo broke through with a run courtesy of Deion Tansel's RBI double into left field.
Ohio threatened in the seventh as it put a pair of runners in scoring position, but were unable to come away with any runs.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Rockets scored two runs on one hit. Leftfielder Jordan Kesson highlighted the frame with a two RBI triple into right center field, which plated Tyler Baar from first base.
Over the final two innings, the Bobcats were limited to just two hits as Toledo went on to the win.
