Ohio Softball Capitalizes On Miami Miscues In Doubleheader Opener

OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored on a dropped fly ball in center field with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to push the Ohio University softball team (24-17, 9-2 MAC) to a 1-0 victory over Mid-American Conference archrival Miami (17-21, 5-6 MAC) in the opening game of a Battle of the Bricks doubleheader on Friday (April 18) at the Softball Diamond.

The Bobcats have recorded six straight league wins and have matched the 2001 squad for the best to start to conference play in program history.

Sophomore pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) dominated in the circle, tallying nine strikeouts over nine frames of work while shutting out the RedHawks and limiting Miami to just six hits and a walk. She improved to 18-12 on the season.

After stranding runners in scoring position in three frames, the 'Cats broke through in the ninth when Claytor reached on a Miami fielding error with two outs in the ninth and scored on a dropped fly ball off the bat of Dorsey.

Dorsey then retired the side in the home half to seal the victory.

Sophomore Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) recorded her team-high 15th multi-hit game of the 2014 season, leading Ohio with two hits.
