AKRON, Ohio - Sophomore third baseman John Adryan went 2-for-4 at the plate, but it was not enough as the Ohio University baseball team fell to the University of Akron 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Lee Jackson Field.

Adryan's (Delran, N.J.) two-hit afternoon marked the second time in the last three games he has collected two hits. It also marked the seventh time this year he has posted a multi hit game.

Ohio starter Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) suffered the loss and dropped to 2-2 on the year. The Bobcat right-hander went 6.0 innings, allowed four earned runs, did not walk a batter and struck out a pair.

Akron starter JT Brubaker picked up the victory as he worked 6.0 innings, allowed just one earned run and struck out four. With the win, Brubaker improved to 3-2 on the year.

Ohio was held without a hit for the first six innings of the game. Despite being held without a hit, the Bobcats only trailed by two heading into the top of the seventh.

In the seventh, junior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) drew a lead off walk and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Adryan followed with a single to third to break up Brubaker's bid for a no-hitter and moved Madsen over to third base to give Ohio runners on the corners with nobody out.

Akron then turned to its bullpen where reliever Masashi Sakamoto would retire the next three Bobcats and hold Ohio to just one run. Redshirt junior Taylor Emody (Milan, Ohio) drove in the Bobcats' lone run of the afternoon thanks to a sacrifice fly, which drove in Madsen from third.

The Zips responded in the bottom half of the seventh as they plated five runs on four hits to open up a 7-1 lead to secure the win.

Sakamoto held Ohio scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

Ohio and Akron return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
