LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) struck out five and surrendered just five hits, and senior Alexandria Basquez (Elk Grove, Calif.) crushed two home runs to propel the Ohio University softball team (13-8) to a 7-3 victory over Ohio State (6-10) in its opening game of the Red and Black Classic on Friday (March 7) at Ulmer Stadium.

Dorsey went the distance to improve to 10-5 in the circle, marking her eighth complete game of the 2014 season.

Basquez smacked two homers for her first two round trippers of the season. Senior Alyssa Wolfe (Junction City, Ohio) hit her second home run of the season for one of her two hits. Senior Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, Md.) also collected two hits.

The Bobcats grabbed an early 4-0 lead by plating two runs in both the first and second innings.

In the top of the first, freshman Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) coaxed a two-out walk to set the table for Basquez's first dinger to left.

Junior Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) sent a one-out double down the left field line and Wolfe followed by delivering a two-run bomb to give Ohio a four-run edge in the second.

The Buckeyes countered with three runs in the bottom of the third to make it a one-run game, but the 'Cats retaliated with two more scores in the ensuing frame. Freshman Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ga.) got things rolling by hitting a leadoff round tripper - her third home run of the year. Dorsey followed by drawing a walk. Freshman Taylor Saxton (Circleville, Ohio) entered the game to pinch run for Dorsey, stole second two outs later and then scored on an Ohio State error to increase Ohio's lead to 6-3.

The Bobcats tacked on a final insurance run in the fifth when Basquez hit a one-out homer to left.

Ohio closed out its first day of action in Louisville by taking on Illinois State on Friday evening. A complete recap and box score will be posted later.
