CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Ohio University softball team (10-1) collected a season-high 15 hits, and junior pitcher Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) struck out eight and tossed her second straight complete game to top Middle Tennessee State (4-9), 3-2, on Saturday (Feb. 22) at Warner Park in the Frost Classic.
Senior Alexandria Basquez (Elk Grove, Calif.), freshman Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ga.) and junior Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, Md.) each tallied three hits while freshman Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) and junior Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio) each posted two hits.
McClary earned her second straight victory in the circle to improve to 2-0 in 2014.
The Bobcats struck first with a run in the bottom of the second. Basquez smacked a leadoff single to left and scored one out later on a fly out to left by Clarke.
The Blue Raiders answered with two runs in the home half of the third to take the lead, but Ohio retaliated in the ensuing frame to snatch the advantage back for good. Gebele smacked a two-out double to right center, then scored by way of a double to left center by Clarke. Clarke scored the winning run on a single to right center by junior Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio).
McClary took control from there, allowing just two more hits the rest of the way to nail down the win for Ohio.
