HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -- The Ohio track & field team fell to Marshall, 70-43, on Thursday (Dec. 4) its 2014-15 indoor season-opening dual meet on the Jeff Small Track in the Chris Cline Athletic Complex.
The Bobcats recorded four event victories -- including a sweep of the top-three spots in the weight throw. Senior Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) recorded a toss of 16.64 meters to win the event while sophomore Emma Ryan (Lakewood, Ohio) finished second with a 14.78-meter throw and freshman Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) placed third with a toss of 14.68 meters.
Rose also emerged victories in the shot put thanks to a 13.11-meter toss. Porter took second with a mark of 12.85 meters.
Ohio claimed two of the top-three spots in the long jump, as sophomore Olivia Mayfield (Beachwood, Ohio) won it with a 5.37-meter leap and sophomore Tajah Smith (Copley, Ohio) placed third with a mark of 5.21 meters. Smith also finished third in the 200-meter dash, clocking a 26.69.
Sophomore Taylor Smith (Canal Winchester, Ohio) won the high jump, posting a 1.63-meter effort.
Junior Hayley Stegemiller (Lebanon, Ohio) took second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:36.84.
Freshman Mya Hodge placed third in the 60-meter hurdles, timing in at 9.31.
Ohio will now take a month off from competition. The Bobcats will be back in action on Jan. 9 for the Buckeye Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
