Oxford, Ohio -- Ohio took its regular season finale against Miami in "The Battle of the Bricks" on the road in dramatic fashion, winning 24-21.

Kicker Josiah Yazdani (Albany, Ohio) drilled a 28-yard field goal at the end of regulation to give the Bobcats their eighth victory over the RedHawks in nine years.

Miami (2-10, 2-6 MAC) took an early lead, gaining a 7-0 advantage on a quarterback draw play by Andrew Hendrix who scampered two yards for the opening score.

The RedHawks added to the early lead, scoring on an interception return by cornerback Quinten Rollins and a passing touchdown from Hendrix to Dawan Scott to take a 21-0 lead.

Ohio (6-6, 4-4 MAC) cut into the Miami advantage on the ensuing kickoff as freshman cornerback Kylan Nelson (Lexington, Ky.) brought the kick back 84 yards to trim the lead to 21-7. That was Ohio's first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2012 against Buffalo.

Redshirt senior defensive end Kendric Smith (Harker Heights, Texas) recovered the first fumble of his career on an errant lateral by Hendrix to set the Bobcat offense up with prime position in Miami territory.

The Bobcats capitalized two plays later when quarterback Derrius Vick (Lincoln, Neb.) hit a wide open A.J. Ouellette (Covington, Ohio) for a 13-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to 21-14.

Brett Layton (Redlands, Calif.) continued Ohio's defensive playmaking, intercepting a Hendrix pass that provided the Bobcats with the ball at the Miami 31.

Vick again took advantage of the turnover and found Jordan Reid (Stone Mountain, Ga.) along the near sideline in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown pass. That was Reid's first touchdown of the season.

On the final drive of the game, Vick found Brendan Cope (Warren, Ohio) for a 38-yard gain to the Miami 11 yard-line to set up Yazdani's game-winner.

After allowing 21 points and 231 yards in the first half, the Bobcat defense locked down the RedHawks in the second half to the tune of only 86 yards and a zero on the scoreboard.

Ouellette had another impressive performance, rushing for 96 yards on 18 carries while also adding a career-high five receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Vick finished with 121 yards through the air on ten completions and two touchdowns. He also rushed 18 times, gaining 61 yards.

STAT OF THE DAY

The touchdown on the kickoff return was the first of Nelson's career and the first of the season for the Bobcats.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I think a team can find itself all of a sudden giving up if you want to use that terms, which I never use. But there are teams that would,” Head Coach Frank Solich said. “This team obviously refused to do that.”
