Clarissa Leickly (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded her first career goal in the 54th minute to push the Ohio field hockey team (5-9, 4-2 MAC) to its second-straight win with a 2-1 triumph over Mid-American Conference foe Missouri State (3-15, 0-6 MAC) on Friday (Oct. 31) at Pruitt Field.&
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bobcats have won three of their last four matches and have secured a berth in the 2014 MAC Championship. Ohio could be seeded as high as No. 2 or as low as No. 4 in the league tournament, pending the results of the rest of the MAC's matches on the final weekend of the regular season.
• Ohio owned a 15-7 advantage in shots over Missouri State and won the corner battle, 13-4.
• Redshirt senior
Lauryl Desch (Charlottesville, Va.) led the match with four shots - including one on goal. She leads Ohio with 32 shots in 2014 - including a team-high 18 on goal.
• Junior
Adele Sammons (Upminster, England) totaled three shots -- two of which came on goal. She ranks second on the squad with 12 shots in 2014.
• Leickly and classmate
Rachel Kho (Oakville, Ontario) both recorded two shots on goal.
• Senior goalkeeper
Brittany Walker (Elizabethtown, Pa.) tallied five saves while surrendering one goal in 70 minutes of work in the cage. Her season save total now stands at 58 while her career stops total is up to 207.
• Ohio broke through for the first goal of the match in the 26th minute when sophomore
Hannah Kingsbury (Louisville, Ky.) notched her first goal of her career off a rebound from the right of the cage.
• The Bears produced to the equalizer just under six minutes later when junior forward Holly Scherer took a pass from classmate Dominique Leyva and found the back of the cage. Scherer's goal marked her team-leading eighth of the season while Leyva produced her first assist.
• The Bobcats regained control of the match just over 19 minutes into the second half when Leickly scored what proved to be the match winner off a deflection off a corner chance, utilizing the first assist of the season by sophomore
Kristen Buchanan (San Diego, Calif.).
• Scherer led Missouri State with three shots on goal while junior midfielder Charlie Redhead added two more.
• Missouri State sophomore goalkeeper Megan Drew totaled a match-high seven saves while surrendering two goals in 70 minutes of action.
