ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio women’s soccer team fell to Miami 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Chessa Field in a Mid-American Conference matchup.
The RedHawks (10-2-1, 4-1-1 MAC) struck first as freshman midfielder Maggie Scott capitalized on an early scoring chance in the third minute and provided Miami with an early 1-0 lead.
Miami increased its lead to two in the second half, with a strike by RedHawk sophomore midfielder Jenna Weiner just getting past Ohio goalkeeper Nicole Amari in the 76th minute.
“I’m disappointed with our effort,†coach Aaron Rodgers said. “I feel like after coming off what I felt was one of our most complete games on Friday, mentally, I don’t think we were prepared.â€
Amari made seven saves on nine Miami shots on goal.
Ohio saw its best scoring chance come in the first half, with a scrum after an Ohio corner resulting in a shot by Annie Beard (Mason, Ohio) that was turned away by Miami goalkeeper Vic Maniaci.
Beard led Ohio with two shots on goal. Carly Manso (Vernon Hills, Illinois) and Sasha Haverchak (Akron, Ohio) also added shots on goal.
Ohio tallied four shots on goal and seven total shots.
“We had a couple of good chances that maybe if we’re a little more aggressive or maybe a little more clinical, we put them away,†Rodgers said.
The Bobcats (6-8-0, 3-3-0) will return to action on Friday and face off with Bowling Green on the road at 7 p.m.
