Ohio Opens Weekend Series with Kent State

The Ohio University baseball team returns to the diamond at 6 p.m. (ET) on Friday for the start of a three-game Mid-American Conference series with the first-place Kent State Golden Flashes at Bob Wren Stadium.

NOTING THE BOBCATS
-In Ohio's last three MAC series', the Bobcats are batting .312 as a team and have outscored their opponent 56-34.
-With a win over Kent State, Ohio can equal its win total at home from a year ago with 15 victories.
-Ohio enters the weekend just three games out of first place in the MAC East behind Kent State.
-Prior to this season, Ohio has a 40-29 record in the month of May over the last five years.
-The Bobcats are averaging just over six runs a game (6.1) and have scored 264 runs this season. In 2011, Ohio totaled 286 runs.
-Ohio's 12 wins in conference play, surpassed its total from a year ago.
-The Bobcats are one of just three teams in the league that have a record of .500-or-better.
-Ohio is outscoring its opponent 265-217, but in the final three innings, the Bobcats hold an 97-55 scoring advantage.
-Senior Ethan Newton has a team-best 22 stolen bases on the year and 42 in his career to tie all-time Marc Sims (1991-94). He needs just one more swipe to become the all-time leader in career steals.
-Junior Dan Schmidt is batting .455 this season with runners in scoring position.
-Ohio is batting .305 this season with two-outs. In home games, the Bobcats own a .333 average with two outs.
-The Bobcats' Earned Run Average of 3.43 is the best in the Mid-American Conference, entering this week.
-Ohio has five players which are batting .300-or better (min. 20 games).
-Ohio has collected 10-or-more hits in 22 of its last 32 games.
-The Bobcats are 20-2 when leading after seven innings.
-Senior Jensen Painter leads the team in slugging percentage (.583), home runs (11), RBI (37), doubles (12), total bases (95) and walks (38).
-Entering this week, Painter is the only player in the MAC that has 10-or-more home runs and 10 doubles.
-Painter has also got on base in every game this season. He is currently in the midst of a 52-game on-base streak dating back to last season.
-Freshman Jake Madsen leads the team with 64 hits on the year.
-Madsen has a hit in 34 of his last 38 games.
-Senior Jason Moulton leads the MAC with a 2.08 ERA, while fellow senior Brent Choban has thrown a league-best 79.2 innings.
-Moulton holds the team lead with 49 strikeouts.
-The Bobcats have lost eight games by just one run and six games by three runs or less.
-In league play, the Bobcats' six losses have come by a combined total of just nine runs.

SERIES INFORMATION - KENT STATE
Ohio will faceoff against Kent State for the 156th time in school history on Friday. The Bobcats lead the all-time series 90-65. The two teams met last season in Athens with the Golden Flashes sweeping the three-game series. Ohio's last series victory over KSU came in 2005.

THE SCOUT ON KENT STATE
The Golden Flashes enters this weekend's series with the league best overall and league mark at 27-17 and 15-3, respectively. Kent State has swept four league opponents this season and enters the weekend series in the midst of a three-game winning streak. KSU is the MAC's top batting (.309) and fielding (.969) team entering this week.
