ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio women's soccer team recorded its third victory of the season Friday night as the Bobcats shut out Indiana State 1-0 at Chessa Field. Redshirt junior Remi Famodu (Bloomington, Minn.) tallied her first goal of the season in the 61st minute, which proved to be enough for the `Cats to propel past the Sycamores.
Solid defensive efforts from both squads led to a scoreless first half. Ohio outshot the Sycamores six to four in the first half and sophomore goalkeeper Mattie Liston(Lakewood, Ohio) only had one save.
The `Cats would respond with more energy in the second half, however, as Famodu connected on a header after senior Kelsey Pichel (Rochester, Mich.) blasted a shot off the crossbar to put Ohio up one with 29 minutes to play. The Bobcat attack applied heavy pressure in the remaining minutes and went on to out-shoot the Sycamores 20-7 for the game to seal the win. Senior Rachael Philpot(Cincinnati, Ohio) led the team with six shots while Pichel finished with three. Liston finished the game with three saves total.
Ohio takes the rest of the weekend off before a two-game home stand next weekend as the `Cats welcome Mid-American Conference foes Eastern Michigan on Sept. 23 and Central Michigan on Sept. 25 to Chessa Field.
