ATHENS, OHIO - The Ohio softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Miami in a Mid-American Conference (MAC) game on Sunday afternoon at the Ohio Softball Field. Jenna McGivney hit a two-run home run in the fourth to lift the Red Hawks to the win.

Junior Alexis Joseph (Alvin, Texas) and senior Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) each went 2-for-3 in the game for Ohio, and accounted for four of the Bobcats' eight hits in the game.

Miami (16-12, 2-2 MAC) broke a scoreless draw in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left field from McGivney. The long ball was the second of three straight hits for the Red Hawks.

Back-to-back doubles by Allie Larrabee and Taylor Rice gave Miami an insurance run in the sixth. The tally gave the Red Hawks a 3-0 advantage.

The Bobcats put two runners on in the seventh with one out, but could not convert. Runners were left on first and second when the final out was recorded.

Ohio (12-16, 1-3 MAC) left nine runners on base in the game including five in scoring position. The Bobcats loaded the bases with one out in the second inning, but a Paige Kemezis (Hackensack, N.J.) ground out ended the threat.

Wethington took the loss for Ohio. She pitched a complete game and allowed seven hits, and fanned four batters. Jessica Simpson picked up her 14th win of the season for Miami with an eight-hit shutout.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, April 9 when they host Akron in a MAC contest. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
