ATHENS, Ohio - Bradley Lucas is tied for 18th after the first two rounds of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships at the TPC River's Bend Golf Club in Maineville, Ohio this weekend. The Bobcats, trying to capture their first MAC Championship since 1980, are tied for eighth place.
Lucas shot rounds of 6-over and 3-over to lead the Bobcats with a cumulative score of 153. He is currently only four strokes out of the top-10 for the tournament. Paul Grauer had Ohio's second best two-round score with a 156 (+12). He is currently tied for 29th.
Connor Coldwater matched Grauer with a 77 in the first round, tied for best on the team, but shot an 82 in the afternoon to fall back into a tie for 35th overall. Byron Firestone is 41st after rounds of 81 and 82 and Mark Reinhold, who shaved 13 strokes off his first-round score with a 76 over Friday's final 18 holes, is tied for 42nd.
Kent State has taken command of the tournament after posting a nine-under par 567, 25 strokes ahead of second-place Ball State. The Golden Flashes' Mackenzie Hughes holds the individual lead, shooting a seven-under par 137 (70-67) through two rounds.
The 72-hole tournament resumes with the third round on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. The final round will be held on Sunday. The winner of the event receives an automatic berth into one of the NCAA Regional Tournaments.
The TPC River's Bend is a 7,180 yard par-72 course. It is one of the Tri-State's Premiere Golf Courses having hosted the Champions Tour and the Nationwide Tour in recent years. An Arnold Palmer Design, TPC offers a challenging layout in a dramatic setting. The course highlights include the par-3 5th and 7th holes, which play over hazards to challenging green surfaces.
