ATHENS, Ohio-The Ohio baseball team got three hits from first baseman Taylor Emody and nice work out of the bullpen to nail down a 6-5 win over Central Michigan Saturday in the second game of the series between the two teams at Bob Wren Stadium.
Ohio improved to 14-12 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference, while CMU dropped to 11-17 and 1-4 in the league.
Emody went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, as did third baseman Dan Ward, who had two hits as well. Center fielder Ethan Newton also posted a 2-for-3 effort.
Chippewa left fielder Sam Russell with 3-for-3 and right fielder Matt Faiman (two RBIs) and third baseman/catcher William Arnold added two hits each. Center fielder Andrew Thomas scored twice.
Ohio starter Brent Choban (2-2) went six innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Reliever Matt Robin picked up his second save by yielding just a hit, with a strikeout, in the game's last two innings.
Central starter Zach Cooper (1-2) surrendered three earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk in five and two-thirds innings.
The two teams traded runs in the first, with Ohio's tally coming on designated hitter Seth Streich's sacrifice fly to right.
Central got another in the second, but Ohio went ahead with two in the bottom half of the inning, which included an RBI single to right center by Newton.
The Bobcats made it 4-2 in the third when catcher Trace Voshell raced home on Emody's RBI single up the middle.
CMU chopped the lead to one in the top of the sixth, but Ohio answered again with two runs in the bottom half on a wild pitch and an RBI single to right center by shortstop Garrett Black.
Central got two in the top of the seventh to pull within one at 6-5, but the Bobcat bullpen kept them at bay for the balance of the game. Robin ended the contest by getting Faiman to line into a double play at short.
The Chips were victimized by four errors in the field compared to Ohio's one.
Russell had two doubles to give him 12 on the year.
Black stole his first base of the season in the sixth. Emody now has a team-high .329 batting average on the season.
The two teams are scheduled to complete the series Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
