Bobcats Finish Fourth at MAC Championships

DEKALB, Ill.-The Ohio wrestling team finished fourth Sunday at the Mid-American Conference Championship that was held on the campus of Northern Illinois University.

                                                                

The Bobcats finished fourth in the team standings with 41.5 points. Central Michigan won the overall title with 79 points.

 

Nick Purdue rebounded from an earlier defeat to top Kent State's Brandon Johnson 5-2 to finish second in the 174 lb. weight class and Erik Schuth also took second at 197 after knocking off NIU's Mike Lukowski 8-0. That duo, along with Jeremy Johnson, who finished third in the 285 lb. weight class, have automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia, Pa. That tournament will be held March 17-19 in Wells Fargo Center.

 

Ohio's Gabe Ramos also took second in the 125 lb. class after defeating CMU's Christian Cullinan 16-9. He would be eligible to receive a potential at-large spot into the NCAA meet when those bids are extended in the coming days.

 

Brad Squire took third overall in the 149 lb. draw, as he defeated Marcel Clopton of KSU 7-6. Steve Wilson finished fourth in the 165 lb. draw after falling to KSU's Ross Tice 12-1.
