Final Stats
SAN DIEGO, Ca.-The Ohio softball team got two early runs and rode the right arm of pitcher Emily Wethington once again to defeat Harvard 2-1 Friday at the University of San Diego Softball Complex at the San Diego Classic II.
The Bobcats have now won eight of their last 10 contests.
Right fielder Melissa Bonner drove in shortstop Alexis Joseph twice for the Bobcats (9-6), while Joseph had two hits herself and second baseman Brooke Morgart had one. Second baseman Ellen Macadam had two hits for Harvard, who dropped to 7-7.
Wethington (7-2) went the distance on the mound again for Ohio, as she allowed just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. Laura Ricciardone (1-3) also pitched a complete game for Harvard, yielding one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
The Bobcats got one run in the first when Bonner doubled through the right side to plate Joseph, who reached when she was hit by a Ricciardone offering.
Ohio went up 2-0 in the third when Joseph raced home from third on Bonner's fielder's choice. Joseph singled to center to begin the inning and advanced to third on an infield error prior to Bonner's at bat.
Left fielder Stephanie Regan lifted a sacrifice fly to left in the bottom of the third to account for the Crimson's lone tally.
Macadam reached base with a single to center in the seventh, but she was promptly gunned down attempting to steal second base by Ohio catcher Jordan Paden. Wethington then got center fielder Ashley Heritage to ground out to end the game.
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday when they face Louisville at 7:30 p.m. ET and San Diego State at 10 p.m. ET.
